Lest you think we’re snoozing over the summer… think again!
Saturday June 27th will be the CZF Ice Cream Social, held at Comfort Station in Logan Square (Facebook event here). Swing by and give us $3-5 (sliding scale) and you’ll get a bowl of ice cream and plenty of toppings (sprinkles, anyone??). We’ll have a variety of flavors and vegan options, too. Join us at Comfort Station at 2579 N Milwaukee Ave from 11:30 am-1:30 pm to get your summer started off right and help us make some cash money for CZF 2016!
We’re also excited be a part of the wonderful Printers Ball in West Town that evening (Saturday June 27th)! We’ll be running a zine jam workshop from 5-6 pm and 7-8 pm—stop by the Spudnik Press Printshop and you’ll walk away with your very own zine! It’ll be in the West Town neighborhood at 1821 W Hubbard St. Printers Ball is always a great time; for more information on their extravaganza of artistic & literary events, visit printersball.org.
One of our stellar sponsors is once again throwing the party of the year! 826CHI presents Prom 9 From Outer Space: A Galactic Romp Through the Retro-Futuristic Cosmos. Attendees will forgo ill-fitting rental tuxes and bustling taffeta for all manner of tin-foiled, corsetted, ray-gunned getups sure to impress the creature on their arm. Come dressed in your intergalactic best (or second-hand formal wear) for a night of cosplay, silent auctioning, raffling, (free) drinking, and DANCING…for the children. When: Saturday, April 26, 8pm-midnight. Where: St. Vincent de Paul Center Gymnasium (2145 N Halsted St). Tickets: $55 for one, $100 for two, $60 at the door (all proceeds from Prom 9 benefit 826CHI’s creative writing programs, which are offered tuition-free to thousands of Chicago students each year!) Get your tickets here!
We know some of you don’t need it, but here’s your chance to queer up your Valentine’s Day AND help out CZF. We’re having a great reading, featuring:
Plus, you can bring your own little piece to win the hearts of the crowd! We’ll give you 3 minutes to spill your guts – read a poem, sing a quick song, stage an impromptu 3-minute play. (We retain the right to deny you your 3 minutes as well.)

This coming Sunday, December 9 The Empty Bottle will be hosting the Pop-Up Book Fair hosted by Curbside Splendor, Chicago Writers House, and The Chicagoan. CZF will be selling some zines (and might even have a few to give away), so stop by if you can. Quimby’s will also be in attendance.
The Empty Bottle is located at 1035 N. Western Ave. in Chicago. Cash bar.
